Making use of the Coanda effect to improve wing lift and field performance, the An-72 twin-turbofan tactical airlifter was intended as a state-of-the-art successor to the An-26. First flown in 1977, it was not until the mid-1980s that production began in Khar'kov. The many variants covered include the An-74S flying hospital and the radically redesigned An-74TK-300 with engines on underwing pylons. 4pp line drawings. 90 b/w and 125 colour photos. 128 pages.
