From the outbreak of the Great War in 1914, Mr Frank Potter, General Manager of the Great Western Railway made a series of reports to the Board of Directors, and these became known as 'The War Reports'. In them he recorded stage by stage the part played by the Company and all its employees as the war progressed and made more and more demands on the railway in terms of locomotives, rollling stock, services and staff.
This new book is a modern facsimile reproduction of the original reports and forms a fascinating and completely comprehensive war history of the Great Western Railway. An essential reference for railway enthusiasts and historians of the GWR, it will also be of interest to general readers who will find within it absorbing details of the effect of war on ordinary people working for the railway.
